Here is a promo for my documentary BLOOD ON THE LENS which is going to be screened at the BLOODFEST FANTASTIQUE 2011competition in St Kilda on the 18th June. BLOODFEST is part of the Melbourne Underground Film Festival & specificall featuring Horror & Sci-fi films.
This doco is a re-edit of my 5 part FAMOUS FOR 15 METERS! doco featuring the segments on the making of the horror/zombie film FROM PARTS UNKNOWN. I have also included parts of a DVD extra that wasn’t screened on Channel 31. It is about the Australian film industry. I included an interview with Lee Zachariah from ‘The Bazura Project’ film review show. This show was on Channel 31 at the time but will apparently be on ABC2 soon.
There is also a brief interview with Bill Hunter from 2005 who has sadly passed away recently. Strangely enuff, when I first screened FAMOUS FOR 15 METERS! in 2009 my Heather Ledger interview became historic after his death. Now this piece of Bill Hunter becomes historic.
I actually bumped into him on a tram a few months ago & asked him about his comments on the Australian film industry. He wasn’t in a talkative mood but he did say that things had gotten better.
At the time I thought his comments about: ‘The yanks trying to wipe us out” were melodramatic until I discovered that in the 1930s American owned film theatres actually banned Australian films from being shown there! (Damn those Americans!)
I also asked Bill if he ever felt as if it was mandatory for Australian films to include either a Bill Hunter or a Jack Thompson. He didn’t seem to see the humor in this & just said no, no, no!
I was going to put an edited version of my STAR WARS documentary in this competition but thought there might be a bit too much copyright material. You might get away with it on Channel 31 but perhaps not in an international competition. (Yes there are international films in this comp)
Anyway my doco will be shown in June & if I don’t win a prize, I hope it might attract some attention & somebody will hire me to do a making of doco for their film. They might actually pay me who knows!
As I like to say, you never know your good fortune in a large urban conurbation.
