YOU’RE AN EX WIZARD HARRY!

I went to see the final Harry Potter film and before it started there were the usual stream of promos for up coming movies. They were full of over the top special effects, slow motion explosion, fast editing and over the top action heroes and villains. Yeah, yeah, yeah I thought to myself, the usual over the top Hollywood stuff. Harry Potter of course is basically special effects from start to finish.
I haven’t seen the behind the scenes video of Harry Potter but I’m sure it must be like Star Wars with the actors reacting to nothing in an empty blue room. I wish I had asked Daniel Radcliffe about this in my brief interview back in 2005.
In 2006 I saw a Channel 31 show called ‘Planet Nerd’ where they had a segment on the release of the final Harry Potter book. The Melbourne Lord Mayor John So was at the book launch & proceeded to read out the last page of the book to the assembled crowd, journalists & TV cameras.
‘Planet Nerd’ then turned their attention to this outrageous breach of etiquette & made this the focus of their segment. What kind of an idiot would blatantly spoil the ending of such a long running saga. John So, who I never liked, was totally unrepentant & just giggled like an idiot, which was almost his trademark.
I somehow managed to make it thru the intervening 5 years without learning the ending to Harry Potter & was able to watch the film full of anticipation, not knowing what was going to happen.
Will Harry die? Will he kill Voldermort? Will Malfoy get his come uppance? Will Filch finally get laid? (Maybe I didn’t want to know that bit!) Now that I have seen the ending to the film I can finally say that John So was a complete bastard! If the end of the book was anything like the end of the film, he really did spoil it for everyone by reading out the last page. I just hope the TV stations bleeped out that bit for the sake of the children.
